The online Somali community is mourning the sudden death of Fatuma Yussuf Sharif-Isaack, widely known as famothelegend, who passed away Tuesday evening in a car accident in Arden Hills, Minnesota.
The Minnesota State Patrol reported that the 21-year-old from Brooklyn Park was driving a white Subaru Legacy westbound on Interstate 694 near Highway 10 around 6:26 p.m. when the vehicle veered from the right lane to the left shoulder, struck a guardrail, rolled over, and collided with a Honda CR-V.
Sharif-Isaack, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, died at the scene. Two other women, aged 20 and 21, who were passengers in the Subaru, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Honda was unharmed.
Known for her wit, creativity, and deep love of language, famothelegend had built a devoted following for her humorous and innovative Somali slang videos. Many fans believed she was destined to become a published author.
One X user wrote, “Subhan’Allah the news of famothelegend (Inna lillahi Wa inna Ilayhi Rajicuun) passing away has rattled me so much… I was so sure she was going to become an author someday.”

Others recalled watching her content just days before her passing. “She was young and had a bright future, may Allah grant her Jannatul Firdows,” one user wrote.
TikTok follower jeopurdy urged the community to honor her memory through charity: “Guys, if you have the ability, please… do sadaqah jaariyah in her name. It could be as little as a dollar, it would greatly benefit her in the akhirah.”
User azulade added, “This is so shocking… I loved the Somali version of the Jet2Holiday sound she made. May Allah grant her the highest level of Jannah.”
Fatuma’s passing has left an immense void both in her local community and among her thousands of online followers, who remember her not only for her humor but also for her ability to bring joy, culture, and language together in a way that resonated with so many.
