Nolan Kiel Obituary, North Mac High School Student-Athlete Died | Girard-Virden IL

The North Mac community is grieving the tragic death of 16-year-old student and soccer player Nolan Kiel, who passed away in a farming accident earlier this week.

Nolan, a member of the North Mac High School Class of 2027 and a midfielder for the boys’ varsity soccer team, was remembered by classmates, teachers, and teammates as someone who always carried a positive attitude and a friendly demeanor. His passing has left the school and community in deep shock.

In a heartfelt tribute, North Mac High School Soccer shared, “Yesterday we lost our teammate Nolan Kiel in a tragic accident. Nolan was the nicest kid. He always had a positive attitude and was a great teammate. Please keep his family, friends, and teammates in your prayers.”

The school has arranged counseling support for grieving students. Counselors will be available at the High School Media Center until 4 PM today, at the Middle School Library from 2–4 PM, and will continue to be available when classes resume on Monday.

A candlelight service for students will take place tonight at 7:00 PM at the high school, followed by a community candlelit walk at 8:30 PM.

Friends have been sharing personal memories online. Former student Aden Elston reflected on how kind Nolan was, even congratulating him before graduation, and expressed heartbreak over the Kiel family’s history of loss. “Rest in peace, Nolan Kiel, aka Big Nol — you will be truly missed,” Elston wrote.

Nolan wore jersey #4 on the field and was known not just for his talent in soccer, but for the warmth and kindness he showed off the field. The North Mac community is rallying around the Kiel family, asking everyone to keep them in their thoughts and prayers during this time of immense grief.
